Swallow bird picture

There are so many types of swallow bird that I am unable to count their sub-species. Personally, I have seen only 3 types of swallow birds.

The most common is the one with its skin like that of bats, and completely matt finished. The bird is almost invisible if it is sitting somewhere. While in flight, it looks like a small jet airplane ready for an attack.

The second most commonly seen is in the outskirts of Pune city, in the Western ghats. It is shiny deep blue in color and is a bit larger than the first one. The photo below is of this sub-species. Sorry, the photo doesn't have its back in frame, which has that shiny blue color. But the bird was not turning its back on me when I was getting closer to it to take its photograph.

The third one is almost the same as the second one but has 2 wire-like feathers in the tail. It's called wire-tailed swallow. I don't have the names of the first two I have mentioned above. But all the 3 sub-species of the swallow birds I have seen are very beautiful and cute. Some swallow birds have mature faces however! I love swallow birds :) Do you?

Online Casinos

Man playing slot machine [animated GIF] A few years back, nobody could have believed that casinos could be taken home! Some of you readers still don't believe it, I know.

I mean, casinos have come home in the form of online casinos that can be played on the Internet. Have a look at the several ways to entertain yourself without going to Las Vegas. Miles and miles of real physical casinos in Las Vegas have different pleasure. Playing casinos online, say roulette, has different pleasure. Try it.

Although, I have never played in any casino ever in my life, most of the people around the world like it. So I thought why not share the knowledge. Enjoy! And oh yes, probably Roulette is the most attractive of all games; have seen it in so many movies!

Bouquet Tree

I know usual bouquets have different types of colorful flowers. But if this tree itself is unusual in looks as if it is a bouquet, why can't it have just one color in its flower-like leaf formations? How do you like it?

Night Photography - Tree

Have you ever tried night photography? It's difficult, but is worth an experience. On our way back from Sam desert to Jaisalmer, we stopped the jeep in complete darkness, and used the headlights of the jeep to take this night photo of a tree.

Jaisalmer has too much of royalty filled in it. There are many palaces over there, many of which have been converted to palace hotels. Even though not all are exquisite, some are mindblowing. Here is one of the mindblowing ones…

Weed flower mistakenly recognized as Brahmakamal

A few days back, I was called by the residents of a neighboring colony because they had Brahmakamals [the lotus of lord Brahma] blooming after 5 years! Those flowers bloom at night; I was called to photograph them. I went there and took many photos, one of which is showcased below.

After a few days, there was a clarification in a local newspaper that the flower thought to be Brahmakamal was actually a weed flower! :) Real Brahmakamals are native to Himalay and cannot bloom in any other environment; Brahmakamals look like cabbages.

Mistakenly recognized as Brahmakamal, this is the photo of a weed flower
Weed flower mistakenly recognized as Brahmakamal

No matter whether it is a weed or a real Brahmakamal, it's beautiful for us :)

Update: I have received an email from someone who would like information to be published anonymously. She says that the name of this flower is Keng Fa, and that it is considered a king amongst flowers in some South East Asia. She has mentioned that the flowers are very fragrant, and that the plant blooms with flowers 3-4 times during a year with life of each flower lasting for only one night — Keng Fa blooms in the evening and last only until morning!

After receiving her note, I searched on Google about this flower and found that it is known as Keng Huay, Broad-Leaf Epiphyllum and Epiphyllum Orchid Cactus also.

Yellow Footed Green Pigeon [Treron Phoenicoptera] AKA Yellow Legged Green Pigeon

Remember my post from Agroha? On that same day, we visited the Agricultural University of Hissar. We were enjoying the beauty and peace of the University campus. Megha spotted Yellow Footed Green Pigeon in a tree! We were all surprised because none of us had ever seen a green pigeon!! Have you ever seen a green pigeon? See here below…

I know you must be wondering why the photo is having only leaves! That's to create a special effect. Scroll down slowly [maybe use scroll-click of your mouse] and the beautiful green pigeon will be visible :)

Note: I received the above photo in an email forward. It's not photographed by me. The copyright and credit of the photo remains with the original photographer. If you are the original photographer, please let me know; I'll very happily link back to you :)

Google Logo has Buckyball today

Today, Google has added a buckyball to its logo, to celebrate 25 years of the invention.

A fullerene is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, or tube. Spherical fullerenes are also called buckyballs, and cylindrical ones are called carbon nanotubes or buckytubes. Fullerenes are similar in structure to graphite, which is composed of stacked graphene sheets of linked hexagonal rings; but they may also contain pentagonal (or sometimes heptagonal) rings.

The first fullerene to be discovered, and the family's namesake, was buckminsterfullerene (C60), prepared in 1985 by Harold Kroto, James Heath, Sean O'Brien, Robert Curl and Richard Smalley at Rice University. The name was an homage to Richard Buckminster Fuller, whose geodesic domes it resembles. Fullerenes have since been found to occur (if rarely) in nature.

The discovery of fullerenes greatly expanded the number of known carbon allotropes, which until recently were limited to graphite, diamond, and amorphous carbon such as soot and charcoal. Buckyballs and buckytubes have been the subject of intense research, both for their unique chemistry and for their technological applications, especially in materials science, electronics, and nanotechnology.

Tribal lady with her child in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

We were into the palace of Patwas in Jaisalmer, enjoying the fine art of the palaces. There was this lady seemingly making her living by allowing visitors to take her photo with her child, as a memory of her tribal presence in the palace!
